As we prepare for our virtual wedding I’ve been surprised by the number of people that plan to dress up. Maybe we are all just tired of wearing our sweat pants and t-shirts every day.
I just got an invitation through the mails:
“Your presence requested this evening,
It’s formal, a top hat, a white tie and tails. ”
Nothing now could take the wind out of my sails.
Because I’m invited to step out this evening
With top hat and white tie and tails.
Words and music by Irving Berlin.
Introduced by Fred Astaire in the motion picture “Top Hat.”
For the first few weeks of our stay-at-home, before it was even mandatory, I wore mostly exercise clothes. Last week I got tired of wearing the same thing and started to dress a little better with Jeans and a t-shirt or polo shirt. That said, I am only wearing a very small part of my wardrobe because there is no place to go except the supermarket.
Our wedding will be unique. It will only be my partner and me in our home. Everyone watching the wedding and everyone participating in the wedding will be remote. We will live-stream the wedding ceremony on YouTube Live. We will not be able to see or hear anyone viewing the ceremony. It is only after the ceremony during our Zoom virtual reception that we will actually see who was at our wedding.
I think it is lovely that folks at home want to dress up. It says that society has not completely broken down yet and that people have a certain level of self-respect when it comes to a wedding, even if the wedding is virtual.
