First Dance

Same-Sex-Wedding-First-Dance

The first dance at our wedding, a suggestion from my mother, was to be Norah Jones song, Come Away With Me.

It’s a beautiful song.  The last part of the song makes you want to cry, and is, and expresses the emotion of being in love.  It is the perfect song for a couple’s first dance after they have been married.

Come away with me and we’ll kiss
On a mountaintop
Come away with me
And I’ll never stop loving you

And I want to wake up with the rain
Falling on a tin roof
While I’m safe there in your arms
So all I ask is for you
To come away with me in the night
Come away with me

After all the trials and tribulations on the way to getting married, the idea of waking up in my husband’s arms, rain falling on a tin roof, while we lay together, sounds lovely. A marriage where we never stop loving each other is what we all hope for when we wed.

So while we will have our wedding ceremony virtually tomorrow, there is a bit of sadness I feel, listing to Come Away With Me, knowing that we will not have that first dance, holding each other closely, surrounded by a room of people who love and care for us.
